50th Anniversary of First Canadian Transplant
Dr. John D. Dossetor is a pioneer in the fields of transplantation, nephrology, dialysis and bio-ethics. Dr. Dossetor coordinated Canada’s first kidney transplant at McGill University in 1958. He is a founder of the Kidney Foundation of Canada, The Canadian Society of Medical Bioethics (now the Canadian Bioethics Society) and has been recognized as a worldwide leader in transplantation medicine. 2008 marks the 50th anniversary of the first successful Canadian transplant and on Monday, June 2, 2008 - 10 a.m. at The Metropolitan Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Dr. Dossetor will speak and receive a special honor at the American Transplant Congress. The living kidney donor, Ms. Nola Johnson, will also be in attendance.
The eighth annual American Transplant Congress 2008 (ATC), from Saturday, May 31 - Wednesday, June 4, 2008, has been recognized by its constituency as the premier educational event in the field of basic and clinical transplantation science and medicine. The goal of this joint meeting, presented by the American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS), and the American Society of Transplantation (AST), is to contribute to and expound upon worldwide research and discoveries in transplantation. The newest data and developments, controversial topics, crucial findings and treatments will be presented daily. With more than 1,700 presentations, both oral and poster, ATC 2008 is one of the most important transplantation conferences in history.
